Adult ADHD Testing

Have you ever felt like you're constantly playing catch-up with the world around you? Perhaps you've noticed that while others seem to navigate their daily tasks with ease, you're often left feeling overwhelmed, disorganized, or like you're wading through a fog of distraction. You may find yourself missing appointments, struggling to manage your time, or starting projects with a burst of energy only to leave them unfinished. If these challenges resonate with you, it might be time to consider ADHD testing. Zephyr Care provides neurodiversity-affirming ADHD testing for children and adults. Our goal is to guide you through this journey with clarity and support.

Why Consider ADHD Testing as an Adult?

As an adult, you're expected to juggle numerous responsibilities. From work demands to personal relationships and household tasks, life requires a level of organization and focus that can feel just out of reach when you're dealing with undiagnosed ADHD. You might experience:

Procrastination: Putting off tasks can become a pattern, one that leads to stress and a perpetual game of catch-up.

Impulsivity: You may find yourself making decisions on a whim, later wondering if a moment of pause might have served you better.

Restlessness: That inner sense of agitation can make it hard to relax, often leading to a sense of being constantly 'on edge.'

Difficulty Prioritizing: When everything feels equally urgent, it's challenging to determine where to direct your attention first.

Why Testing Makes a Difference?

Pursuing an ADHD assessment isn't about finding flaws; it's about understanding your unique brain wiring. It's a step towards self-discovery that can offer immense relief and validation. Here's how a diagnosis can make a tangible difference in your life:

Clarity: A diagnosis provides clarity, replacing self-doubt with an explanation for the difficulties you've been experiencing.

Tailored Strategies: With a clear diagnosis, you can access strategies and tools specifically designed to work with your ADHD, not against it.

Support: A diagnosis can connect you with a community of individuals who share similar challenges. There's comfort in knowing you're not alone.

Empowerment: Understanding your ADHD allows you to take control. You can advocate for yourself in work and social settings, seeking accommodations that can help you thrive.

The ADHD Testing Process

The process of ADHD testing is thorough and comprehensive, designed to better understand your unique lived experience with neurodivergence.

Initial Consultation

The first step is an initial consultation, which will involve:

  • Discussing concerns and reasons for seeking an assessment

  • Discussing personal, academic, and/or occupational history

  • Gathering information on symptoms and their impact on different areas of life

  • Discussing other potential mental health symptoms you are experiencing

Rating Scales and Questionnaires

Standardized rating scales and self-report questionnaires are used to assess the presence and severity of ADHD symptoms, as well as to screen for other conditions that might co-occur or mimic ADHD. These are thorough and completed on your own time. The process takes most people about 2 hours.

Neuropsychological Testing

A series of tests may will administered to evaluate:

  • Attention and concentration abilities

  • Executive functioning skills, such as planning and organization

  • Memory and processing speed

  • Language and visual spatial skills

These tests help differentiate ADHD from other potential diagnoses and provide insight into your unique cognitive profile. This testing will help you learn more about your personal strengths and weaknesses.

Comprehensive Report

You will receive a comprehensive report about 1-2 weeks after testing is completed. This report will include diagnosis, an explanation of testing results, recommendations for treatment, and referrals to other treatment providers such as therapists and medication management if needed. The report will highlight areas of strengths and weakness. Because our evaluations are comprehensive, they do not just evaluate for ADHD. Other mental health conditions can mimic ADHD and other mental health conditions often co-occur with ADHD. If you have other mental health diagnoses like depression, anxiety, etc. the report will also provide these diagnoses and recommendations for treatment.

Feedback Session

Once the assessment is complete, an optional feedback session can be scheduled to discuss the findings. If an ADHD diagnosis is confirmed, we will explore:

  • The specific nature of the ADHD presentation

  • Recommendations for treatment, which may include therapy, coaching, medication, and lifestyle changes

  • Strategies for managing symptoms and leveraging strengths

  • Follow-Up Support
