Frequently Asked Questions About Psychological Testing
FAQs
-
You may benefit from psychological testing if you have ongoing concerns about attention, focus, social interaction, learning, or emotional functioning. Many people seek testing when they feel stuck, misunderstood, or unsure why certain challenges persist despite effort or treatment.
Testing can help clarify whether ADHD, autism, a learning difference, or a mental health condition may be contributing to what you are experiencing.
-
Yes. Many adults seek testing later in life after recognizing patterns that were not identified earlier.
Adult ADHD and adult autism often often look different than in childhood, especially for individuals who have learned to mask or compensate. Testing can provide clarity, validation, and a better understanding of how your brain works.

The process typically includes an initial intake appointment, a testing session, and a comprehensive report.
Testing may involve interview, questionnaires, and structured tasks designed to assess different areas of functioning. The goal is to gather a full picture of strengths, challenges, and patterns.

Most evaluations include:
An intake session (about 1 hour)
A testing appointment (typically 3–4 hours)
Time for scoring, interpretation, and report writing
Timelines may vary depending on the type of evaluation.

For many people, testing provides answers they have been searching for years.
It can help explain lifelong patterns, guide more effective treatment, support accommodations, and provide a sense of validation. Many clients report that understanding why things have been difficult is just as important as the diagnosis itself.

No. Zephyr Care is not in network with any insurance plans. After many years of accepting insurance, our providers have decided to no longer participate in insurance plans for several reasons. First, insurance companies do not always pay for psychological testing or certain types of testing. Insurance companies frequently do not cover ADHD or autism testing. Insurance companies who do pay for testing often try to dictate to providers which tests should be given and will exclude payment for some tests that are necessary to make a proper diagnosis. At Zephyr Care, we believe that your mental health care should be between you and your provider and not decided by insurance companies. Psychological testing is not one-size fits all and by not accepting insurance, our providers are able to tailor your testing experience to your unique needs. Lastly, many times insurance companies will tell clients that they will pay for testing, but then deny payment after testing is complete – leaving you with an unexpected bill. At Zephyr Care, you will NEVER receive a surprise bill, as all testing costs are discussed up front.
