Dr. Rebecca Stayton is a Postdoctoral Resident and Licensed School Psychologist in Tennessee who specializes in evaluating children for autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities. She combines expertise in psychological assessment with firsthand knowledge of how schools identify and support students’ needs. Her work helps families understand their child’s learning, developmental, emotional, and behavioral profile and use that understanding to pursue appropriate support at school and at home.
Dr. Stayton also provides autism, ADHD, and learning disability evaluations for adults, including those whose learning or developmental differences were not identified in childhood. She helps clients explore longstanding questions about attention, learning, social experiences, and everyday functioning, considering how their experiences have evolved from childhood into adulthood. Her background in school psychology brings a valuable developmental and educational perspective to this work, helping adults understand their strengths, clarify areas of difficulty, and identify individualized recommendations for support.
Having practiced as a School Psychologist in Sumner County, Tennessee, Dr. Stayton understands the school system from the inside. She is familiar with the practical questions families face when a child is struggling, from how to request support to how evaluation findings can inform educational planning. She helps parents understand the IEP and Section 504 processes, identify accommodations that address their child’s needs, and communicate their concerns and priorities to school teams.
In addition to psychological testing, Dr. Stayton offers parent consultation focused on school accommodations and educational support. These consultations give families space to ask questions, understand their options, and prepare for conversations and meetings with their child’s school. She provides education, guidance, and advocacy, partnering with parents and collaborating with school teams to help translate recommendations into meaningful support.
Dr. Stayton’s approach is compassionate, neurodiversity-affirming, and grounded in an understanding of each child’s strengths and needs. She also works with families navigating behavioral challenges, helping parents explore what may be contributing to a child’s difficulties and develop practical, individualized strategies. Her background in parent coaching and school collaboration informs recommendations that account for the realities of daily life in both settings.
Dr. Stayton earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology, with a minor in Applied Behavior Analysis, from Ball State University in 2025 and her Ed.S. in School Psychology from Baylor University in 2020. She completed her APA-accredited doctoral internship at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health in the autism services track, providing assessment and intervention services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Although her current work emphasizes children and families, her assessment experience spans the lifespan.
Outside of work, Dr. Stayton enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her family, friends, and her two Corgis.
